What Love Does Devotional
January 26-31
Each day, take time to meditate on the scripture, reflect on the questions, and pray fo
guidance and strength to live out these principles in your life.
Day 1: Understanding Phileo Love
Scripture: John 15:13 – “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s
friends.”
Reflection: Phileo love is a deep, brotherly love that goes beyond mere acquaintance. It is th
kind of love that Jesus exemplified, a love that is willing to sacrifice for the well-being
others. Reflect on the friendships in your life. How can you demonstrate this kind of sacrific
love to those around you?
Prayer: Lord, help me to understand and embody the depth of phileo love. Teach me to be a
friend who is willing to sacrifice and serve others as You have shown us through Your life
Amen.
Day 2: The Importance of Community
Scripture: Hebrews 13:1-2 – “Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. Do not
forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality
to angels without knowing it.”
Reflection: Community is vital in our walk with Christ. We find support, encouragement,
accountability within the community. Consider how you can be more hospitable and open to
forming deeper connections with those in your church and community.
Prayer: Father, open my heart to the community around me. Help me to be hospitable and to
see others as You see them. May I be a source of love and encouragement to those I meet.
Amen.
Day 3: The Sacrifice of Friendship
Scripture: Proverbs 17:17 – “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of
adversity.”
Reflection: True friendship requires sacrifice. It means being there for others in both g
times and bad. Reflect on how you can be a more consistent and reliable friend. Are ther
sacrifices you need to make to strengthen your friendships
Prayer: Lord, give me the strength and willingness to be a friend who loves at all times. Please
help me to be present and supportive, especially in times of adversity. Amen.
Day 4: The Role of Forgiveness in Friendship
Scripture: Colossians 3:13 – “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a
grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”
Reflection: Forgiveness is a cornerstone of lasting friendships. It allows us to move past hurt
and continue to grow together. Consider any grievances you may hold and ask God for the
grace to forgive as He has forgiven you.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to forgive others as You have forgiven me. Remove
bitterness from my heart and fill it with Your love and grace. Amen
Day 5: Building a Legacy of Friendship
Scripture: Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 – “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for
their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.”
Reflection: Friendships are not just for the present; they build a legacy that can impact
generations. Reflect on how your friendships can leave a lasting impact. How can you invest i
relationships that will bear fruit for the Kingdom of God?
Prayer: Lord, help me to build friendships that honor You and leave a lasting legacy. May my
relationships reflect Your love and bring glory to Your name. Amen
