What Love Does Devotional
Feb. 3-8
These devotionals are designed to encourage reflection and growth in love, intimacy, and commitment in marriage. They draw from biblical principles and the themes discussed in the sermon.
Day 1: Understanding Love
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
Reflection:
Love is more than a feeling; it is an action and a commitment. In our relationships, especially in marriage, love should be patient and kind, reflecting the love God has for us. Consider how you can demonstrate these attributes of love in your relationships today.
Prayer:
Lord, help me to love others as You love me. Teach me to be patient and kind and to reflect Your love in all my relationships. Amen.
Day 2: The Gift of Intimacy
Scripture: Genesis 2:24
“That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.”
Reflection:
Intimacy in marriage is a gift from God, designed to unite a husband and wife in a deep, meaningful way. This unity is not just physical but also emotional and spiritual. Reflect on how you can nurture intimacy in your marriage or future marriage.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the gift of intimacy. Help me to cherish and nurture this gift in my marriage, building a strong and lasting bond with my spouse. Amen.
Day 3: Honoring Marriage
Scripture: Hebrews 13:4
“Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.”
Reflection:
Marriage is a sacred covenant that should be honored and respected. Keeping the marriage bed pure means being faithful and committed to your spouse. Reflect on ways you can celebrate your marriage and uphold its sanctity.
Prayer:
Lord, help me to honor my marriage and keep it pure. Give me the strength to remain faithful and committed to my spouse, reflecting Your honor and keep my marriage.
Day 4: The Power of Commitment
Scripture: Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”
Reflection:
Commitment in marriage is about supporting and uplifting each other. It is about standing together against challenges and building a life intertwined with God at the center. Reflect on how you can strengthen your commitment to your spouse and God.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, strengthen my commitment to my spouse and You. Help us to support each other and to keep You at the center of our marriage. Amen.
Day 5: Embracing Forgiveness and Grace
Scripture: Ephesians 4:32
“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
Reflection:
Forgiveness and grace are essential in any relationship, especially in marriage. We are all imperfect and need to extend the same grace and forgiveness that God has given us. Reflect on areas where you need to offer forgiveness or seek it from your spouse.
Prayer:
Lord, teach me to forgive as You have forgiven me. Help me to extend grace and compassion in my marriage, building a relationship that reflects Your love. Amen.
