What Love Does Devotional

Day 1: Understanding Agape Love

Scripture: 1 John 4:7-8

“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.”

Reflection:

Agape love is selfless, sacrificial, and unconditional. It is the love that God has for us and calls us to have for others. Reflect on how God’s love is the source and destination of true love. Consider how you can show this kind of love to those around you without expecting anything in return.

Prayer:

Lord, help me to understand and embrace Your agape love. Teach me to love others selflessly and sacrificially, just as You have loved me. Amen.

Day 2: Love Without Expectation

Scripture: Matthew 5:44-45

“But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven.”

Reflection:

Loving without expectation means loving even those who may not love us back. Jesus calls us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us. This is a radical love that reflects the heart of God. Think about someone you find difficult to love and pray for them today.

Prayer:

Father, give me the strength to love those difficult to love. Help me to see them through Your eyes and to extend grace and kindness. Amen.

Day 3: The Power of God’s Love

Scripture: Romans 8:38-39

“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Reflection:

God’s love is the most powerful force in the universe. It is unbreakable and unchanging. Reflect on the assurance that nothing can separate you from God’s love. Let this truth bring you peace and confidence in your daily life.

Prayer:

Thank You, Lord, for Your unchanging and powerful love. Help me to rest in the assurance that nothing can separate me from Your love. Amen.

Day 4: Love in Action

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”

Reflection:

Love is more than a feeling; it is an action. Consider how you can put love into action today. Whether through patience, kindness, or forgiveness, let your actions reflect the love of Christ.

Prayer:

Lord, help me to love in action and truth. May my life be a reflection of Your love, showing patience, kindness, and forgiveness to those around me. Amen.

Day 5: The Greatest Commandment

Scripture: Matthew 22:37-39

“And he said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'”

Reflection:

Loving God and loving others are the greatest commandments. Reflect on how you can deepen your love for God and express that love to your neighbors. Consider practical ways to serve and care for those around you.

Prayer:

Father, help me to love You with all my heart, soul, and mind. Show me how to love my neighbors as myself, and give me opportunities to serve and care for them. Amen.
